French officials have consented to start stopping migrant vessels in the English Channel, following an extended period of insistence from the UK.

This policy shift comes after the British leader wrote to the French leader asking him to back the initiative and stating there currently "lack any effective deterrent" in the Channel.

French maritime police will be allowed to intercept the migrant vessels at sea, but exclusively prior to they've collected their migrants, according to official confirmation.

French police have infrequently acted to prevent the heavily loaded boats leaving the coastline because it is considered excessively high a danger to both personnel and individuals.

"It is crucial that we deploy these methods this month... We have no effective prevention in the Channel."

Now, a French maritime police representative says officers will begin intervening at sea, with the objective of protecting lives.

Significantly, the spokesperson excluded the use of entanglement devices to intercept boats, which had previously been reported as a potential method to disable the propellers of the vessels.

This determination to take action at all is a significant step forward, following a brief change towards a more aggressive approach this summer, which dropped off when the previous government official left government.

This was demonstrated in the summer month, preceding a meeting between the UK leader and President, when French police were observed wading into the sea to damage the hulls of a boat.

Now French authorities will once more be permitted to stop boats prior to they collect migrant passengers from the coastal areas of northern France, however it's not clear how the small boats will be stopped.

Powerful gusts are presently delaying the commencement of intervention operations and the people-smuggling networks will be looking for ways to adapt to evade detection, as they have done so often in the past.

The Home Office and the Prime Minister's office have been approached for response.
