This move was prompted by a major station owner stated it would also preempt Jimmy Kimmel Live! on its network of channels. The broadcaster referenced objections over the monologue content related to the killing of the political figure.

Context

Amid his Tuesday monologue, the host stated that certain individuals were trying to capitalize on the death of the commentator, who was fatally shot on September 10 in Utah.

The accused individual has been charged with aggravated murder and is eligible for the death penalty.

Kimmel also criticized the vice president for reportedly pointing fingers at political opponents for the incident without evidence.

Vance had claimed that a large share of violent actors in the US belong to the far left, a statement the comedian dismissed by pointing to a study on political violence in the United States.

Regulatory and Industry Reactions

Prior to the broadcast group's move, a top regulator had asked stations to drop the show, warning that potential sanctions or license revocation if they broadcast content that misrepresented facts.

The FCC chair later thanked the media group for making the move and stated that local stations have a duty to serve the public interest.

A company executive described Kimmel’s comments as divisive and untimely during a critical national discourse.

Jimmy Kimmel has not commented publicly regarding the decision.
